Xeomin® is an injectable treatment used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), forehead lines, and crow’s feet in adults. Like Botox®, Xeomin® is a neuromodulator and works by temporarily relaxing the targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting and creating lines and wrinkles in the skin.
Adults 18 years or older who are interested in softening the appearance of lines between the eyebrows or forehead can often benefit from Xeomin®. Patients should know that because this injectable treatment is made to treat dynamic wrinkles or those caused by repeated muscle movements, it cannot address static wrinkles that are caused by skin aging or sagging skin. You should not undergo this treatment if you have a facial or systemic neurological condition, a history of severe allergic reactions, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your Xeomin® treatment session will begin with Dr. Gray analyzing your face to determine which areas should be focused on. Ice is available to numb the area prior to injections if you desire; however, many people do not require numbing cream as the treatment only feels similar to a pinch. Xeomin® will then be skillfully injected into the targeted areas using a small needle, which usually takes about 5-10 minutes to complete.
There is no downtime needed following your Xeomin® treatment, so you can return to school, work, or daily activities right away. For best results, we do recommend that you avoid strenuous activity and prolonged sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment. Mild swelling, bruising, or redness may occur at the injection sites but will dissipate with time.
Visible results can begin to be seen after 24-48 hours and will improve over the next 1-2 weeks. Overall results can last from 3-4 months before a touch-up treatment is needed. Xeomin ® results are not permanent, and if you discontinue your injections then your lines will gradually return.
