So, you have tried an array of lotions, gels, and creams, but just can’t seem to find a way to minimize the appearance of your scars or stretch marks? If this sounds like you, you are not alone. Both scars and stretch marks can be difficult to treat with over-the-counter options. Thankfully, there is scar & stretch mark treatment at Pinnacle Dermatology & Skin Rejuvenation to help you achieve the skin you desire!

What is Scar & Stretch Mark Treatment?

When the skin is damaged, the body creates new collagen fibers to mend the damage, which results in a scar. Stretch marks, on the other hand, are streaks or lines that occur when the skin stretches or shrinks quickly. These sudden changes cause collagen and elastin in the skin to rupture, and as the skin heals, stretch marks may appear. Both of these conditions can be stubborn and difficult to treat at home. That is why we recommend laser resurfacing treatments to help to diminish the appearance of scars and stretch marks for smoother, more even skin.

When it comes to laser resurfacing treatments, there are two main types: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers work by removing the topmost layer of the skin (epidermis), while non-ablative lasers work by heating underlying tissues without harming the surface, stimulating collagen production. Both methods are effective in fading the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

Who is a Good Candidate for Scar & Stretch Mark Treatment?

Individuals with lighter skin tones and shallow scars or stretch marks often see the best results. Patients with darker skin tones have a higher risk of healing with hyperpigmentation, but should be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have a history of keloid scarring, you should not receive this treatment. Multiple treatment sessions may be required depending on the depth and size of your scars and/or stretch marks. To schedule your consultation appointment, contact our office today!

The Scar & Stretch Mark Treatment Process

During your scar & stretch mark treatment, you will be offered a topical anesthetic to help ensure you are comfortable. The skin will then be cleansed, and the appropriate laser will be used across the skin. Each laser resurfacing treatment may differ slightly depending on the type of laser treatment (ablative or non-ablative) and the depth of the laser. Treatment can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size of the targeted area.

Scar & Stretch Mark Treatment Results

Swelling and redness may occur following scar & stretch mark laser treatment, with varying levels of intensity depending on if your laser was ablative or non-ablative. Be sure to follow Dr. Gray’s specific aftercare instructions to ensure you experience the best possible results. You should be able to see a noticeable improvement in the appearance of your skin gradually over time.
